Full day visit to Serra dos Órgãos

Tour description:

A full day visit to the Serra dos Orgãos National Park, located just an hours drive away from the center of Rio de Janeiro. The Park has an area of 11.000 ha. with vegetation and eco-systems ranging from coastal hills up to Pedra do Sino, its highest peak of 2.369 meters above sea level, where altitude plains are found.

In between, there are lush rainforest and many threatened species of wildlife, including the Muriqui monkey, the largest primate of the Americas. We will visit the area near the town of Teresópolis, where there are large portions of preserved Atlantic Rainforest and beautiful mountains.

Our first stop is at the lower level of the Park, where the guide will explain the fauna and flora of the region followed by an easy 15 min. hike to the Poço Verde -  the Green Lagoon (picture in the left).

Here we will stop to enjoy the clear, emerald green waterfalls and for those who may wish to do so, take a dip in the cool, refreshing lagoon before we go for lunch. After a delicious, typical Brazilian lunch, we continue to the upper area of the park. Here, at 1.500 m. altitude we find a cooler climate, spectacular views and opportunities for great hikes inside the Park.

The guide will provide explanations about the park and show the main important points, such as the Dedo de Deus –God´s Finger Peak - at 1.692m, one of the most famous of Brazil. We will take our guests on two easy trails inside the Park, one being a  canopy tour, on top of the trees,  followed by a stop at the visitor´s center before we return to the city.

The Serra dos Orgãos National Park is a beautiful National Park, where one can enjoy and appreciate nature, while contributing to preservation efforts, yet very close to a large urban area such as Rio de Janeiro.
