The National Park of the Chapada Diamantina is situated in the State of Bahia and it is one of the most fascinating natural parks of Brazil. The mountain scenery has an extraordinary variety of ecosystems, like cerrado, Atlantic rainforest and stone fields, Caatinga. The bromeliads and orchids find a privileged ambience, adapting themselves to the differences in climate and altitude. The mountain range reaches a height of 1802 meters and they offer shelter to the Jaguatiricas (local feline) pumas, mocós (local rodents) and deer as well as other animals.

The park is also a very pleasant and interesting place for trekkers and people who like day walks with spectacular views, waterfalls, caves and nature in general. At night you can enjoy a nice local guesthouse and the charming city of Lençois or choose to stay in Vale do Capão in a local guesthouse far away from city and normal life.

Caves (full day)

Iraquara

Mucugezinho river- Its name comes from one of the region´s  eatable native fruit, the mucugê. It attracts hundreds of people during the weekend. The river in itself is very pretty and has many spots where you can go for a swim. One kilometer down the river is the Diabo´s well. Diabo´s Well- Excellent to have a swim and to see the view of canyon and the waterfall. It is located in the Mucugezinho river. Rappel option and Tyrolese. Pai Inácio´s Hill - Surrounded by legends it is one of the principal postal cards from Chapada Diamantina. A sensational sight in the region´s, it is situated at 1.120m of altitude. The hill´s ascent takes from 20 to 30 min. Pratinha - the Pratinha River, which leaves the Pratinha´s caves, is the main gift from the Santo Antonio River. It is starts in the hinterland, the union of underground waters of this region, and "desengruna" in this lapa, the Pratinha farm. Gruta Azul - a limpid and transparent lake of impressive beauty Shelters, it is 17m deep. Between 14:00 and 15:00 Hs, a solar refraction invades the cave, cutting the waters in an extensive and deep band of light. Lapa Doce´s cave - with approximately 23 km of extension already mapped, is full of stalactites, stalagmites and with incredible formations.

Fumaça's fall (full day)

Capão Valley

Fumaça´s Fall- One of the most impressive waterfalls in Brazil, with almost 400m of free fall. In the driest periods the water does not arrive at the well, exhausting itself in air as vapor, the track is of 7 km from the Capão´s Valley.

Marimbus - chapada's little pantanal (full day)

Andaraí Marimbus - You will see a Pantanal ecosystem in Chapada Diamantina. The Marimbus is located between Lençóis and Andaraí and is inserted in the Area of Environmental Protection - APA. Counting on an incredible fauna and flora, you will find a great number of birds, plants and animals. Roncador´s River - the Roncador´s River is located between Lençóis and Andaraí. Soon in the river´s estuary, where it passes the road, it has an enormous and deep well. You can bathe there, but the prettiest part is in the mountain range. Time: Going out at 8h30m. Return: Between 17:00 and 18:00hrs. Permanence: around 1 hour and 30.

Wells

Chapada Diamantina

Encantado well - One of the nature's most beautiful creations. The Encantado well is a lagoon inside of a cave. The water is of a fantastic blue that is even prettier between April and August, when a sunray enters from an opening in the cave. Well with 90m of extension and 60m of depth. Azul Well.  A small well that is 18m deep, with an exuberant, blue tonality where you can float.

• Return: between 18:30 and 19:00.
• Permanence: around 1 hour and 30

DAY 1 - Early start 06:30, 400km drive/bus to Chapada Diamantina National Park. Arriving afternoon at Lencois. Accommodation at Guesthouse. Small walking tour around the lovely, old diamond town. Evening free.

DAY 2 - Breakfast. Whole day trekking, morning 7km hard but beautiful trail. Box-lunch. Afternoon visiting Ribeirão do Meio, a natural waterslide. Evening free.

DAY 3 - Breakfast. By car visiting several caves Lapa Doce, Gruta da Pratinha and Gruta Azul, with cristal clean waters, possibility for swimming and snorkling (snorkling equipment available for rent). Before arriving at Lençois, a visit to Rio Mucugezinho (Poço do Diabo).

DAY 4 - Early light-breakfast. Morning bus/car to Salvador.
