Tour 4 days & 3 nights

Day 1

pick-up at hotel at 08:00 or at airport upon arrival.

The first stop on the route to Bocaina is Bananal, an old coffee-town from the 1860s - an era when the region, the Paraíba Valley, was the world´s largest coffee producer. We will make a stop here - after approximately two hours of driving - where you will have time to appreciate the atmosphere of this historical city. After a stop for coffee and a snack, we continue up into the Bocaina mountain range  to 1200 meters of altitude - and into the Atlantic rainforest. Here, after an hours drive, we will visit The Ecological Station of the park, which is a research station. Here there will be time to hear about their exciting environmental research work and see the fantastic nature of the park area. You will also visit the beautiful Sete Quedas Waterfall and take a short hike on a preserved stretch of the old “Gold Trail”- built in the high altitude of the jungle and completed in 1710. The Portuguese colonizers used this trail to transport gold and diamonds from Minas Gerais to the coast ! A route with stories and legends of pirates and adventure. We will have a light lunch during our stay at the Research Station. Late in the afternoon we will continue the last hour to our pousada, where we will be met by the owners and upon checking in will get to know the facilities and the area. A typical dinner from the posada’s traditional kitchen will be served later in the evening, when there will be time for enjoying the area and relaxing and a sauna for those who may wish to enjoy the cool evenings in the mountains. Overnight at the  pousada.

Day 2

After a healthy breakfast we will spend our first morning in Bocaina visiting one of the highlights of the region: the Bracuí Waterfall. After a light 40 minute hike, we will reach the top of the waterfall, which then plunges through a sequence of falls 1.100 meters down to meet the Atlantic Ocean. We will stop for about 40 minutes here to appreciate the view and the cascades of water. Continuing back to the pousada, we may extend the hike, depending upon the will and fitness conditions of our guests. For those who may wish do to so, there will be time and  opportunity to stop on the way and bathe in the cool waters of the Bracuí River. Lunch will be waiting for us when we return to our pousada. After a good meal, there will be time for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the pousada. Our guide will be at your service to give  explanations about  the area  or, if you wish, to show you some of the other very special places of the surroundings. There are also optional tours, which - at an extra charge - can be arranged, such as trout fishing or horseback riding. Our guide will be at your service to give  explanations or to show you one the many special places in the surroundings. A light dinner will be served at 8 PM. Evening at your disposal to relax, to enjoy the fireplace, and the peaceful environment.

Day 3

After a delightful breakfast, we will leave for the Rio Vermelho Valley, located close by, where there are large areas of original, preserved Atlantic Rainforest. We will be met by a local guide who will show some of the various trails winding up to Morro Alto, one of the highest points in the area, (1550m) where on a clear day one can see all of the Bocaina Mountain Range, the Atlantic Ocean, and have an idea of the vastness of the area. On the way, we will see a large variety of plants and trees, and may spot exotic bird life, rare monkeys and other animals from the rainforest. The local guide will also show us many of the plants used for centuries in traditional medicine and provide explanations of the local fauna and flora. Our hike - where anyone with a reasonable fitness level can participate -, will last approximately four to five hours and will bring us back to the pousada in time for a delicious lunch.
